The Biggest Roadblocks to Unity in the Church Today

Rate this Entry
I believe that the biggest roadblock to UNITY in the Church today is simply PRIDE. Pride says that I'm RIGHT and your WRONG. That belief alone is the END of a relationship.

Hand-in-hand with that, I believe, is JUDGMENT. Judge not lest you be judged! God is very clear on this, yet it's one of the greatest sins of the Church. How many times per day do we curse ourselves by holding our beliefs, our lifestyle, or our devotion in higher esteem than our neighbors?

Jeff: There is a balance here. We are called to boldly stand for our beliefs, even if persecuted. We are also called to love our enemies. Paul said that we should be "speaking the truth in love." He also said that we are not to be "unequally yoked with unbelievers." In other words, we are not to compromise Biblical teaching for the sake of "unity."

    Hello Steve,

I'm not talking about unity between the Church and the World, I'm talking about unity within the Body of Christ. A lot of things in scripture are black and white, but some are not as clear. To think that my interpretation is SUPERIOR to your interpretation, seems prone to error at best, and rather quite full of sin.

I LOVE what Nancy Batson says, in the "Preach it Grandma!" recording, in the left column of our home page!

I was just listening to a podcast while jogging, and it happened to be on the SAME TOPIC we are speaking of here, so I'll share it with you:

Brad and Wayne catch up on some hilarious and insightful email and then find themselves in a discussion about our misconception of ministry as trying to get other people to see what they are not seeing, rather than to walk alongside them in their journey as God opens their eyes to see his reality. Do we really “minister to” someone, or do we walk alongside them as servants? The ministry of Jesus invited people into his life; he did not drag them kicking and screaming into something that didn’t chose for themselves.
